  • Finding Audio Peaks?

Posted by Shiloh Heyman on September 7, 2007 at 7:14 am

    Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to detect peaked audio in an eddited timeline, without having to play it in real time while watching the audio meters?

    Thanks in advance.

If you export an aif of the mixdown and import that into an audio system like Pyramix you can get a maximum peak readout on the file without playing it at all.

Within FCP I doubt this is possible but someone may have come up with a good trick for this.

If you’re longing for overmodulated audio use Mark>Audio>Show Peaks. It’ll look through the active sequence and use extended markers over areas that reach zero. You can also normalize it to set audio to a specific peak level.

    All the best,

    Dear Tom.

I was under the impresseion that Mark>Audio>Show Peaks only worked within a clip and not a eddited sequence of clips. If it is possible to mark all the peaked audio in a sequence, can you please tell in detail all of the steps in this process? Everytime I try, the function is greyed out unless i use it on a single clip in the viewer.

    Thanks

Make the timeline the active window. Make sure nothing is selected and select it from the menu. It’s important to do it in the timeline because it combines track volumes.

    Thanks Tom,

I had to make sure that none of the clips in the timeline were selected for it to work.

    Thanks again
