We use the Photo-JPEG codec to preview the animations in real-time when working with animation for the web or Flash. The DV codec stinks for this kind of work. For final render we change the sequence to the Animation codec, render, and export a self-contained QuickTime movie using the Animation codec. Record or compress to the proper playback format and you will hopefully see satisfactory results.

Our solution for PC and Mac high-speed file transfers: Linksys SR2016 Gigabit switch ($300.00+-), installed new 10/100 NIC cards in the Macs and Dells ($30.00+-) and CAT 6 cable. I used the onboard gigabit cards for the gigabit switch and the 10/100 cards for WAN and Internet connectivity. Now all of our video files are transferred using the Gigabit LAN. Building this gigabit network for ten computers cost us just over $650.00 with room to grow.
We are using Rendezvous/Bonjour for small file transfers after setting the systems to use the gigabit connection first. If transferring gigabytes of data the drives are mounted.

Have you tried to zapping your PRAM? Occasionally the PRAM can become corrupt and cause problems with your computer. If you are experiencing problems that have resisted other attempts at troubleshooting, you can sometimes solve them by zapping the PRAM. You can do this by holding down the Cmd (?), Option, p , and r keys while starting up or restarting your computer. This will automatically restart your computer a few seconds after it powers on. Keep holding the Cmd, Option, p , and r keys and allow your computer to restart seven times. Then let it power up and boot normally. You may need to go in and change some of your settings, as they will be reset to factory defaults.

We have having intermittent problems with one dual 2.5. If the DSR-20 is turned off, FCP will not refresh the device properly. FCP sees the device again, but the video only plays a few frames per second. After this happens, the only fix is to restart FCP.
We have numerous edit stations (10+) running 10.3.9 without issue, but this one dual G5 is having issues with FW devices.
