We have three new HM100’s employed next to our F350’s and EX3. We have noticed that the cameras will hunt for focus in low light, or if there is great contrast. The HM100 has all the professional features needed to produce professional video IMHO. We don’t trust the accuracy of the flip out LCD; however, the image in the viewfinder is usable for establishing focus and levels. For run-and-gun, which some professionals do, the autofocus is decent, but not perfect. We work with very young children in cramped quarters, so we had to switch to smaller “professional” HD cameras. The size of the F350’s frightens the children, distracts them or whacks them in the head. You use what tool is best for the given environment and we got three HM100’s for the price of one EX3. Is it a perfect camera? No, but it does get the job done.
Have you attempted to reset the camera?

Example:
If the projects are stored on a server, use an iMac with an MXO, AJA or Black Magic converter to play these projects from one, or multiple timelines. We have done this during our live TV shows. However, we are not a news station. After the newscast is over videos can be conformed and archived. A dedicated FCP playback station is very affordable–news stations had multiple dedicated $40k+ BVW playback decks just a few years ago. With our budget as it is we are always thinking of nonstandard ways to save money and time. All of our broadcast programs now playback from a Drobo. A $900.00 bread box saved us from purchasing a $25,000 server.

You are very lucky if you have had no problems. We experience pigheaded IT departments most every week. Installing new software at institutions, and medium to large companies, can be a challenge and that’s saying it nicely. Delivering both codecs has lead to piece of mind and happy clients.
Thank you Telestream.

December 29, 2009 at 8:44 pm in reply to: The new IMAC + external HD + capturing videoThe one and only G-Tech drive we purchased for a documentary died. G-Tech did replace the drive after losing it in their shipping department. Took a few weeks to get the replacement.
Have had good luck with the Iomega drives. The Iomega UltraMax Hard Drive, eSATA/FireWire 800/FireWire 400/USB 2.0, 1TB – 34166 is available at Amazon for $147.70. Have ten at the station and have yet to experience a failure. Even dropped one on location and it’s still working to this day.
