Need to mix formats? Capture them all with a capture card in one format: 8-bit or 10-bit uncompressed. Different formats have different dimensions, so you are going to have to resize and render in one format or another.
With the version of Avid that I use (meridian, symphony) you have to digitize in one format to work…mixing formats does not.
Need uniformity…use one uniform capture setting and use a card.

Incorrect. Your timeline will be set to one resolution, and any resolution that does not match those settings will need rendering. DV, HDV, DVCPRo HD, HD…they all have varying sizes and aspects ratios. If capture them in their native formats, then try to put them in one timeline…something will have to be rendered. If you move the clip with the resolution that differs from the timeline settings, then it will need to be rendered.
No card will help this…other than to allow you to capture the various formats as one…DV, HDV, DVCPRO-50 all captured as 8-bit uncompressed, for instance.
Not sure about Avid Express Pro, but other Avid products get by this by capturing material as one resolution: 15:1, 2:1, 1:1…Avid codecs….thru it’s own proprietary capture cards. Again…the way to accomplish the same thing with FCP is to purchase a Decklink card or AJA capture product and capture all the various formats using one codec…8-bit uncompressed or 10-bit uncompressed, for example.

Only on high end decks like the DSR-1800.
But as to how to do that with FCP…dunno. Only worked on an Avid with that deck…

Audo is audio…it doesn’t run at a frame rate. It should come close to matching up.

If you get a CODEC NOT FOUND missing hardware check ALL your images in Photoshop and make sure there are in a RGB color space NOT CYMK, LAB, OR GREYSCALE

Matchframe back to the original clip…make your speed change, then drop that clip into the timeline.
When you change the speed of the clip while it is in the timeline….it keeps the same in and out points, thus making it larger or smaller, depending on whether you increased or decreased the speed.

1) Set a limit on Capture Now. Never have that box unchecked. Set it to 60 min if you want the whole tape.
2) Do not under any circumstances run any anti-virus/filesaver software. Including Norton and Virex. Sure, Apple doles out Virex for free, but FCP doesn’t cooperate with it very well.
If you absolutely feel you must keep Virex installed on your system then use Kevin’s script to shut it off before you use FCP:

4) Check the format of the drive you are capturing to. It should be Mas OS Extended, jornalling off. If it isn’t, copy your files from it and re-initialize it. If it is any other format, you will encounter problems. If not at first, then eventually.

Yes. Final Cut Pro will not capture to a drive via USB. It MUST be a firewire drive, or a secondary internal drive.
