Please also be aware that FCP is primarily a Non-Linear Editor, designed to work with video footage. The fact that it does moves with stills is an added bonus (although I doubt you see it that way right now).
After Effects is the more appropriate program for doing moves on stills, and is the one I use all the time, over both FCP and Avid (even though Avid has this plugin that now allows for moves on original stills, not just imported media files).
FCP is not doing what YOU want it to do…and you are using it for something other than it’s primary function.
And please, by all means, judge your footage on an external NTSC monitor or TV…NEVER by the image in the CANVAS or VIEWER windows.

.dv is a format that iMovie uses that mixes the audio and video into one stream. The way FCP works is it seperates the video and audio tracks so that the editor has more control over them. Also, the .dv files contain no timecode information. Something very useful.
.dv files don’t work well in FCP…and may require constant rendering. The most basic setup for FCP is the DV/PAL Easy Setup. But, if you are going to be moving up to FCP, I’d suggest re-capturing the material.

True…that is how it works. Not coming from a Tape to Tape system, that seems foreign to me, as this must to you.
But really, if I set my out point, I want it to include the frame I am looking at, for I want to be looking at the last frame, so that I can see what it is.

[Dominik Bochenski] “When you set an OUT point, that frame should not be recorded on”
That makes no sense to me. For if you park on a location and hit OUT, then to me, you are saying THIS SPOT is where I want the footage to end…include this spot. But I guess that is because I was raised cutting on film and Avid.

In the browser scroll to the right until you see the heading ANAMORPHIC and put a check mark in that column for all the clips. They will then resize and look right.

People constantly say this and I don’t get it. If you mark an in, that is the first frame of you video, and if you mark an out, the frame you are parked on is the last frame. It doesn’t drop in the frame after the one you mark as the last frame.
But, if you say, mark an in then type “5:00” and mark an out, then the diration will be 5:01. That is just the way it is. You’ll need to get used to marking an out point 1 frame back from where you’d expect. So if you want it to have a duration of 5:00, type “+4;29”. It is this way for both FCP and Avid. Just something to get used to.

Park the playhead on the image you want. Mark IN, Mark OUT, go to FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME CONVERSION and in the dialogue box click on MOVIE TO QUICKTIME MOVIE and select MOVIE TO STILL IMAGE.
Then you’ll have to take it into Photoshop, or some other still image editing app, and de-interlace it.

search the forum for quicktime 7 and see what people have written. QUITE a few posts on the matter.
As for the ProApp update…it is software that runs in the background so it won’t show up as an App. And it installs itself in the manner it needs. Or so I hear.

You need to make a seperate EDL for every video track. That is how it is done. Machines that import EDLs can only accept EDLs one video layer at a time…even in the world of Avid.
All the editor who accepts the EDLs needs ot do is import the EDLs one at a time and re-assemble the layers. Pretty straightforward.

” I know it’s not working when I dump back when the audio meters just don’t move during print to tape.”
Don’t judge it by this. ONLY judge it by the image and audio you are getting from a TV or NTSC monitor you have connected to your camera/deck. Depending on the speed of your system, the meters might not refresh often (visually) and look like they are not moving.
