MP3’s are a lossy, highly compressed format. FCP doesn’t like highly compressed, and insists on AIFFs.
Avid doesn’t like them either (earlier versions at least…MC v11). It can’t even import them…doesn’t see them as a viable file type.

I believe that Soundtrack 2 does this. Keeps the tracks separate. And any changes you make are instantly updated on the FCP timeline.
As for Pro tools…export an OMF. That is what they need. And add handles. Ask the audio guy how much they prefer.

The external should be fine for DV material. I have had 2 FW 400 drives for 3 years and they have never failed me.
I also have 3 extra internals, and I go to them first, as they are more reliable. But he external handle the overflow very well.

Nope. 8-point garbage matte is the best you are going to get. For now.

DV is also best viewed overy firewire. Firewire from your computer to your camera/deck to a monitor.

Well, it has to be a Mac because FCP only runs on a Mac.
FCP runs fine on all the powerbooks, and reasonably well on the iBooks. But when you throw Magic Bullet into the mix, you are talking processor power needs. Most towers take a while to render Magic Bullet effects.
Get yourself the current 15″ Powerbook model. Good speed and good monitor size. The 17″ is too much IMHO, not worth the additional real estate.
