  • Animatte in FCP???

Switching over from Avid and the first thing that catches my eye is the fact that I only see a way to create a garbage matte by using the 8 point garbage matte feature in FCP, but obviously you can only use “8 points” (hence the name). In Avid you have an Animatte where you can have as many point you want with any shape you want. Am I missing something here?

Nope. 8-point garbage matte is the best you are going to get. For now.

I miss my AniMatte too… A powerful tool that.

Thank you for correcting me on THAT one.

This is VERY nice to know.

    Next time…if I don’t know, I will shut up!

Well you don’t get animatte for $999 bucks on Avid. It’s an add on or only comes on the more expensive systems if I remember correctly.

We have an add on called Motion, which is pretty nifty too. But to tell you the truth, I haven’t tried to draw any mattes in it. I assume it can though.

You can also drag more than one matte onto a clip. I’ve done it before and it works, although I admit it can get a little confusing.

I will pass that on to my editors. What a great idea, thanks.

    Hi Greg,
I use RotoFX from SilhouetteFX.com. 395 US$ but worth each cent.
Even better than Animatte (think so….) ’cause it has integrated tracking capabilities.
Problems with 25 FPS projects in FC though, but they promise to do a bugfix.
And with 30 FPS it should work fine.
Plus you can eport shapes from FCP to AfterEffects and tweak them further.
    (No – I’m not a salesperson from Silhouette…..Just missed Animatte too :-))
