footage looks untrue after digitizing
I’m comparing the original footage off my DVX100-a to the digitized footage into FCP 4.1 (Matrox RT mac version),
and the digitized footage looks lighter, lost its richness in color. Weird. Still looks ok, but not as good contrast reproduction. Seems quite noticeable when digitizing 24p footage.
Any others encounter this?scott
Powermac Dual 1.3, 1 gig ram, RTmac card.

If you are using a capture card, there will be a difference as you are compressing the footage. Are you judging this on an external NTSC (or PAL) Monitor or TV? You cannot judge by the computer display, no matter which on you have…
Why not go straight in via firewire and go in lossless? If you go in via firewire it is a simple data file transfer and the footage will be EXACTLY what you have on tape…

It’s because the RTMac is, putting it plainly, crap. DV is best brought direct in over firewire!

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I am going in Firewire. I mention I have the matrox card just because it sends the signal out to my NTSC monitor. Has nothing to do with digitizing.
Any other ideas?

DV is also best viewed overy firewire. Firewire from your computer to your camera/deck to a monitor.
The Matrox has horrible A-D and D-A conversion. Or so Graeme has told me…

Yes, the Digital to Analogue converter inside the Matrox is also crap. You could also have it set to 7.5IRE setup compared to the camera which could very well be giving out 0IRE blacks, making them look very different.
