One project per computer. Period. This isn’t Avid Unity where the bins are all separate folders that one machine can modify…the project file is a whole. You will have to have two separate projects (Project A and Project B) and then have a transfer project where you drop in sequences that you want the other person to have.

Clone your system to another drive (using carbon copy cloner), or just back up your files and then wipe the main system drive and install Panther and the updates from scratch. Then you will have to install every application again.

That is the only way to go backwards.

Sorry Jan…the VISUAL EFFECTS EDITING for Sky Captain (and Sin City, and Lava Girl & Shark Boy, and X-Men 2) were done on FCP. The actual films were edited with Avids.

What that means is the HD footage was all edited at full resolution using FCP…but only as a TEMP composites. The final composites were all done on Silicon Graphics machines at VFX companies.

I know the VFX editor…that is how I know.

Shane’s Stock Answer #12:

1) Do not capture to your main system drive. Since it is busy reading the operating system and application files, it will intermittently drop frames during capture.

2) Do not under any circumstances run any anti-virus/filesaver software. Including Norton and Virex. Sure, Apple doles out Virex for free, but FCP doesn’t cooperate with it very well.

If you absolutely feel you must keep Virex installed on your system then use Kevin’s script to shut it off before you use FCP:

3) Check the format of the drive you are capturing to. It should be Mas OS Extended, jornalling off. If it isn’t, copy your files from it and re-initialize it. If it is any other format, you will encounter problems. If not at first, then eventually.

4) Trash the FCP preference file:

The HDV capture preset means that it captures the footage in it’s native form…no further compression. The Apple Intermedia Codec compresses the footage further. It was a stop-gap measure for working with HDV until FCP 5 came out.

That is the nature of playback on the computer monitor. Footage requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. Normally you’d use an external monitor to view the footage and see what it really looks like. With HDV…that is a bit tricky…

This won’t work. You will need an HD capture card like those from Decklink to view this on an external monitor. The AJA onlyu works for SD footage…now you are in HD territory. The following is from the Decklink site:

The position of the clip is controlled by the CENTER control. Either adjust the numbers, or click on the “+” symbol and drag it where you want it to go.

Cinema Tools is required to convert the EDL from 29.97 to 23.98. It is a simple menu option…

They can’t see it….they get a message that they need to download something from quictime, but that it isn’t there.

So if your client doesn’t have QT 7, don’t encode H.264.
