  • Help: What big HD-Projects have been done in FCP?

    Hi!

I am currently trying to convinve my boss to buy an uncompressed FCP System.
My boss (or rather his customer) thinks that fcp is quality-wise inferior to AVID DS HD or the Sony XPRI. They would rather give the onlining away.
Ok, it might be that the DS or XPRI are more fun to drive or more realtime or whatever.
The basic problem is: The customer thinks that FCP is always compressed due to it’s close relationship to quicktime. I guess it’d be a waste of time trying to explain him quicktime.
My first idea was to put three clips together on each of the systems playing them out top tape. Give them the unlabeled tapes and let them guess which is which…
My boss doesn’t like the idea because he doesn’t want to offend his customer (which i can understand).

So maybe some big names can help me convince them.
What uncompressed HD Projects have you done in FCP?
Of what projects have you heard that have been made with FCP?
    The bigger the better.
Any natural history stuff maybe? Even bbc?

Thanks for the help and sorry for the long post

I just remember having read that sky captain and the world of tomorrow
    has been edited on fcp.
Unfortunately that one is rather unknown in Germany.
I liked it. It was quite fun, although a little too glowy at some times.

I’m cutting a broadcast series on FCP in HD, more information soon in a press release.

    “Scrubs” for NBC
“Destroyer, Forged in Steel” for Discovery Channel
    NASCAR on Fox
Obviously everyone mentions Cold Mountain cut by Walter Murch.

Go to the Apple site and click on “Pro” for a lot of stories and users of FCP in HD.

All I can tell you is that I’ve put my FCP Kona 2 HD system up against an AVID DS/HD system and the image quality is identical.

Dasiy Cooks!, a new PBS cooking show, was shot on Varicam and on-lined in FCP.

Sorry Jan…the VISUAL EFFECTS EDITING for Sky Captain (and Sin City, and Lava Girl & Shark Boy, and X-Men 2) were done on FCP. The actual films were edited with Avids.

What that means is the HD footage was all edited at full resolution using FCP…but only as a TEMP composites. The final composites were all done on Silicon Graphics machines at VFX companies.

I know the VFX editor…that is how I know.
