  • The only way is to do the speed chage in the Viewer BEFORE you cut it into the timeline.

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.

    Shane’s Stock Answer #8:

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv

Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.

Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video

Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV

If for some reason you can’t view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:

    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.

    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.

    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.

    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.

    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices

    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed

If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

If your project is 16:9, then you need it to match that. The graphics should match your sequence settings.

What format of HD? There are many.

ALternatives? Medea FCR2X is what Walter here uses. Not MUCh cheaper, it also being fibrechannel, but a little cheaper.

    SATA RAIDS are cheaper:

    https://store.yahoo.com/firmtek/
    https://barefeats.com/hard57.html

All of these will work with DV and BetaSP…but again, what form of HD. Uncompressed HD really wants fibrechannel or SCSI II Raids.

Looking at all of this on an external NTSC monitor? Or judging with your computer monitors?

NEVER judge with your computer monitors. They do not show a true representation of the image.

No. Digibeta is 720×486…4:3. Standard Definition TV is 4:3. It can play anamorphic footage, but then you still need the TV or NTSC Monitor with the 16:9 switch to unsqueeze it.

    Don’t do that.

Stack them on top of each other, just like you did. Now CROP each one…load it into the viewer and select the MOTION tab, and use the CROP tools near the bottom.

  • The odd thing is that is should match every single time…if you captured properly.

You didn’t capture some of the footage with your device control set to UNCONTROLLABLE DEVICE and Capture Now did you? That will ignore the timecode on the tape and generate it’s own.

What is your requirement for a delivery master? D5?

It really works great to capture your footage at the DVCPRO HD resolution…it doesn’t take up all that much room. Then when you are done, you can output uncompressed HD thru the Kona…unconverting on the fly.

That is what I am doing.
