There’s no software RAID-5 solution for OSX. Also, drives 7200RPM drives are between 20-40 MB/s. With current drive speeds, SATA2 achieves absolutely nothing over SATA1, since there’s no single drive that is faster than 150MB/s.

I have an 8-disk SATA RAID-0. It’s about 250 MB/s when empty, and about 180MB/s when half full.

I’m getting sick and tired of this. This bug has really *&%$ed us up here.

Today we had to rebuild an old project that has been offline for a while. It consited of five 2-hour long source masters. The piece was about 2 minutes long. Guess what? We had to redigitize the who *&%$ing five hours. Absolutely unacceptable!

  • Are you using FCP5?

Quictime Pro and Compressor can do that. You just have to set up a custom preset.

  • Blackmagic NTSC -> DV Easy Setup. I’ve tried it with Digibeta and with a BetaSP (see my other post). I have channels 3-12 turned off, and channels 1 & 2 set as a stereo pair.

FYI, my audio output IS set to follow video which is set to the Decklink.

I don’t know if this just started or if it’s always been the case since version 5. I recently stopped monitoring audio from my Multibridge and started using the SPDIF again. The SPDIF works just fine from a sequence or from the viewer, but not with Log and Capture. It’s very strange. My Tiger and FCP installs were clean. I installed them on an empty system disk.

I never heard that, but whatever slot it is, it’ll tell you in the G5 user manual.

My old Boris titles crossed over just fine. So maybe you did something wrong. I know that’s not much of a help, sorry.

I’ve heard all the complaints about MM. Personally, I never had any issues with it. I think it’s people not using the workflow Apple intended.

This is not the same thing and I can’t stress that enough because I know people are thinking “same ole, same old”.

I don’t work with EDLs much so I couldn’t say.

Have you tried saving the reference file to shared folder on the Mac, and then accessing it and opening it from the PC?

[TK] “Try turning off the Include Master clips. You’ll see the media get deleted. Watch out though for any reversed clips, the delete function doesn’t play nice with them”

That’s not true. Of course that’s turned off.

I think the important thing here is that many people like Charlie and myself have used Final Cut for a long time now and know how it works (or at least is supposed to work). While a lot of new users get confused by MM and post these questions, that is not the case here. MM is totally screwed up in version 5.
