I have a PC on the same network as my FCP system. I don’t have any problems going back and forth between the two machines except for ref. mov. files. I am assuming they won’t work cross platform but I just wanted to ask before I give up.

Reason I want to do this is for .wmv compression. I currently render out a BM 8bit file from FCP and drag the resulting huge file over the network to the PC and use Procoder. It would be nice if I could just use a ref file.

Have you tried saving the reference file to shared folder on the Mac, and then accessing it and opening it from the PC?

What happens when you attempt a reference movie?

Flip4Mac, https://www.flip4mac.com/flip4mac_home.htm, has software that will enable you to export FCP files to .wmv. I just got it yesterday and it seems to work great.

Jerry – I tried a ref file and it shows up as an unsupported file on the PC.

Mark – I tried Flip for Mac, and it does great .wmv files. Problem is time and flexibility. Procoder lets me do an avi, mpeg1 and wmv file as a batch. To do the same on the Mac would require me to use compressor for the mpeg1 file and still export to the PC for a good quality avi and .wmv. I might look at compression master on the mac if I can’t get the ref file to work over the network.

Thanks to all for the ideas and suggestions.
