  • Trim Project, Deleting unused media, media manager–NO RESULTS

    HI-

I’m trying to free up some drive space. Using the Media manager, I am trimming the project and sequences. After I do so, however, the file sizes are the same? Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong or where the deleted unsed clips have gone?

    for instance,

    orginal: 136 GB
    Modified: 120 GB

After going through the steps to trim the sequences, I still get the same amount of space, as if I had done nothing ( but waste the hour or so it takes to “do it”)

    1. selected sequence or sequences
    2. control click sequences, and choose Make Sequence clips independent.
    3. media manager:
    “use existing”
check box for delete unused media
    check box for handles
    choose exisisting file names.
    uncheck project section

These steps were taken from a tutorial by Andrew balis, found on Kenstone.net.”Media management in Final cut Pro 4″

How much more media do you expect to be able to delete?

    Are you using FCP5?

I have the same problem-and its driving me nutty!! No trimming- no matter what settings I change in MM window. For a 4 min timeline, in one case, i get 1.3 gb of media remaining. should drop to about 860 Mb, I think. I’ve tried this on several project files and NEVER see any trimming.

Same problem here, Trying to reduce and recapture an old FCP4.5 project in FCP5. Media Manager doesn’t seem to delete the unused footage. I took the project back to one of out other machines that’s still running in FCP4.5 (my luck that I didn’t have the time to upgrade all the machines..) And MediaManager works perfectly.

I tried the https://www.lafcpug.org/FCP_4_trim_dang_it.html workaround on FCP5 but that doesn’t help me out either.

Any thoughts? or is the Mediamanager in FCP5 crooked?

Yep I’m in FCP5, is ths a known issue? And is it fixed in the 5.0.2 update, Apple provided today? isn’t mentioned in the docs though..

    any help would be appreciated.

    regards.
