I just signed up for this term at fxphd – courses have not been released yet as they stagger them the first week to control bandwidth but I can let you know how they are.

I can watch the first 2 classes for everything before choosing my courses for the term but as of yet neither of the davinci classes have anything out yet. I am also wondering if the Storm class is really worth taking if i dont do a ton of on set tech RED work. Trying to figure out for an AE / editor / colorist such as myself what is the most value for me as I am just learning cs5 now and not ready for 200 level courses on that or C4D.

thanks for the reply i guess i was hoping some people would have done tests already and found the sweet spot on this machine.

also the problem stills remains of my system not multi thread cluster processing, here is a screen grab of what activity monitor shows – in the destination folder i only see one copy still.

any help?

so this is the batch monitor and activity monitor right now – set to use 20 threads and in the save destination folder i see only one file working as well.

yes i checked activity monitor and batch and both dont show multiple threads. i tried resetting background processes, went thru all the settings and then just checked the allow job segmenting tab – i am using the apple default iphone 640 setting so i expected that to be on anyways…cant find any reason for this not working?!

yes of course – i did everything like i have always done in using compressor & qmaster cluster…

just switched it so it says 20 threads and resent the job – so far i seem only a .m4v-1 but no others??

chris I think u better addressed my question which is why I am not seeing the multiple instances and what the optimal settings are for core settings. right now it says 24 instances and I have it set as I always have in past cluster use on 8cores. so you recommend setting that to 20 (10 of 12 cores?) This is the first time I have tried using a cluster on my new 12 core so I am trying to figure out what is wrong – all setting seem correct and this is a brand new fully up to date 12-core.

I fully understand what the multiple copies means, no confusion about threading. I am saying I did NOT see that happen when I sent the batch even tho it’s set to use all 24 threads. if I am not running any other apps should i still have it set to use 10 of my cores?

just to clarify – my setup with slow down resolve by 15-20%?

If i had 2 more 8gb sticks (48gb ram) then it wont be a problem? I am debating whether or not to scale down to 24gb and swap out for my 8gb sticks or add 2 more 8gb sticks…
