Working with audio in AE is not fun to begin with. To hear it, you have to render. I prefer to work with audio in Premiere.

  • I would render out using Quicktime Animation, or Quicktime Photo JPG, then open that in AE. Granted, this would be a “flat’ version. Depending on what you want to do in AE (color grade, etc), this could be all you need. After you’re done in AE, render out in the same manner – Animation, Photo JPG, etc. This is a simple approach without really knowing what you’re trying to do. Hope this helps! Ps. you don’t need a Mac to do video editing.

“I always work in square-pixel comps until I am ready to render. At this stage, I nest my square-pixel comps into its relevant non square-pixel aspect ratio comp and render that out. ”

Roland, can you please elaborate on this?

  • Look at the specs for high end video workstations and compare them to what you think would be a fast machine. They are going to build machines that are made to handle video editing – so I’d follow their model.

Double check your settings in Encore. I’m thinking your footage is fine, but your project is set to 4:3 somewhere.
