  • What steps should I take to place 16:9 footage in AE?

    Hello –

I am sorry but this is related to another post. I am still trying to see what I have done incorrectly. When I take my 16:9 footage and put it in AE at widescreen DV resolution and keep it at 720X480, the result looks fine on the computer.

I manipulate the footage and import it back into Premiere Pro and it looks fine. When I then export THAT project that included the AE files I created and drop the movie into Encore, it again looks fine on the computer. In fact, when I check the timeline it says 16:9.

However, when I burn the disc, The image seems to be blown up to full screen. I never had this problem until I decided to start using AE. If I edit in premiere, export the movie and drop it into Encore, I get a 16:9 burn!

What are the correct steps and settings? I must be missing something!

(I also did set the footage to square pixels in AE. D1 I believe. No difference)

    Thank you gurus!!

I’m not a Premiere user (I use FCP and DVD Studio), but in all my experience making DVDs and using AE, I’ve never come across something like that where AE was the variable. Are you dropping your AE elements straight into the Premiere timeline, or rendering them first? I suppose something along those lines might confuse Premiere when it sends the file out to Encore… Also, is it JUST the AE sections that appear full screen, or the whole movie on the disc?

If you’re dropping the AE stuff straight into Premiere’s timeline, try rendering it out first and see if that solves the problem. Otherwise I’d say look for settings in Encore that are doing something strange for you.

I highly doubt this is an AE problem, but perhaps there’s a Premiere expert out there who will disagree with me.

Double check your settings in Encore. I’m thinking your footage is fine, but your project is set to 4:3 somewhere.

Every time I check the timeline, the 16:9 radial is opted for.
