I could be wrong here, but as far as I know nobody in history has ever been able to achieve good results with object motion blur. In other words, I agree with Arndt. You might try Vector Motion blur if you have it. It doesn’t always give great results either, but I’ve been able to get isolated objects like the ones you’ve built to work.
The only virtual guarantee for good motion blur in Cinema is good old scene motion blur. Unfortunately this also guarantees long render times.

Yes, Nucleo is a must have on the Quad. Get as much RAM as you can afford. Even though AE7 can only use 3 gigs, if you’re using Nucleo each copy of AE it launches in the background can use 3 gigs (I think) so you’re talking about a lot of RAM.

Select all the path objects in Cinema and go to Functions> Connect.

Yes, I’ve notived this as well. It’s subtle but the type is definitely not as smooth as an exact duplicate done in Illustrator or Photoshop and then imported. As a rule I put a .5 pixel blur (less on really small type) on all type made in AE; it seems to do the trick.

February 21, 2006 at 8:09 pm in reply to: Any word on when Apple will get its act together with opengl?I’ve noticed a similar problem in AE 7. Open GL seemed to show a much greater speedup in 6.5; now I usually work in adaptive resolution because it’s much better than Open GL in AE 7. I think this a an AE 7 peculiarity, as I’m seeing superb Open GL performance in Cinema 4D on my macs.
As far as the Open GL performance difference between PC’s and Macs, I gather this is mostly an issue of market share. There’s a lot more PC’s out there, so ATI and Nvidia put more effort into optimizing the PC drivers. I’m not sure how OSX on Intel might effect this, but I’d guess that barring major efforts on the part of Apple, this gap will continue unless Apple sees a significant increase in market share.

February 21, 2006 at 7:59 pm in reply to: Is it possible to change one keyframe amongst many without changing the timing of them all?I may be misunderstanding, but it sounds like all you have to do is select multiple keyframes at the same time. You can select multiple keyframes from many layers and move them all at once; just drag a box around them with the cursor or shift select them one by one. Also, one handy trick is to select a group of keyframes, then hold dpwn the option key (mac) as you drag the last one. This will keep the interval between the keyframes the same as you change the overall timing.

Based on the benchmarks I’ve seen, the top end Quadro card is not worth the extra money at all. The 7800 GT is 95% as fast for most things and is only $300.
The G5 Quad is well worth the extra money vs. the Dual. Buy with confidence. 😉

I can vouch that the Quad G5 handily beats the Dual G5 in AE. I’ve got those two machines sitting right next to each other and there’s a pronounced difference. I already get annoyed when I have to use the Dual for AE stuff, which seemed pretty speedy before. 😉
Running Nucleo on the Quad speeds things up even further. I’ve had a couple of real world projects render in about the half the time on the Quad with Nucleo than they did on the Quad without it.

January 28, 2006 at 3:39 pm in reply to: Apple don’t support AE7 open GL high fidelity .I suppose there is a combination on the mac that supports this, but I was pretty disappointed to find that my brand new G5 Quad with Nvidia 7800 does not support high fidelity Open GL in AE. I’m hoping this is simply a driver issue…
