This is a question I should have asked a long time ago. I’m hoping there is a solution for this. When i export some type out of Adobe Illustrator and save it as version 8, i’m able to open it up in C4D. But…..everytime i open the ai file into C4D, it opens and places the text to the top right off of the world center axis. I want the ai file, when i open it to be positioned exactly in the middle of the scene. Is there a preference to set for this? How can i get this to work. It’s really annoying having to use the transfer function on a null object in the middle of the scene to get the type to center exactly to the scene.

    thanks!

Yo Jakie, Cinema reads where your 0,0 is in ai. If you position the crosshairs in ai at the center of your art, Cinema will read it there, and your artwork will sit pretty at Cinema’s 0,0,0. In ai just use a temporary reference box with with a center you can snap to, align, and then snap to guides. Crosshairs (you probably know) are up in the top left corner of the ai screen.

I also have a .ai question…… When I bring in v.8 .ai files of words, the object consists of paths for each letter instead of a path for the whole word. How can I get that right?

Select all the path objects in Cinema and go to Functions> Connect.
