questions about G5 options before a purchase
I’m looking at purchasing a mac G5.
What is the best combination when it comes to performance on the G5?
Is their a marked difference in performance between the dual 2.3 GHz G5 and the quad 2.5GHz G5 when running AE 6.5?
Also, is the Quadro 512mb video card worth spending the $1100 extra over the NVIDIA GeForce 256mb video card when it comes to performance?
Is it better to buy more ram upfront rather than spend it on the video card?
I know it’s a lot of options, but maybe someone has already done the leg work.

And make sure you buy Nucleo with it, so that all CPU’s are loaded fully.

Depending on the project you can see how the Quad G5 is sometimes twice as fast as the dual G5.

Based on the benchmarks I’ve seen, the top end Quadro card is not worth the extra money at all. The 7800 GT is 95% as fast for most things and is only $300.
The G5 Quad is well worth the extra money vs. the Dual. Buy with confidence. 😉

unless you are using a program like maya or similar 3d app, you dont need the quadro card
