9e has been pretty stable for me other than the memory issue when rendering, but that seems to have been resolved by setting my dynamic ram preview to 0mb when I render (I STILL think that having that matter when you go to render is STUPID, but I shall live with it). Vegas IMHO had better get there ducks in a row for version 10(which I REALLY hope they do since I have used it since version 3), or they are gonna loose customers to Premiere. But I digress, 9e has been the most stable for me in the version 9 line…plus I like the PSD implementation!!

Did you try to use the pan/crop tool, right clip and choose match output aspect?

1) Did you go from 32bit to a 64 bit version of Vegas?
2) Did you re-install all plug-ins that were none-Sony plug-ins?
3) Did you use some plug-ins (like Pro-dad stuff, Mercalli, etc) that need to do a scanning of the source marterial?

All these could be issues…hope it helps!

I have done the recital thing before and use two cams…one wide one moving with close-ups.. I do slow pans from side to side for the “face time” when possible and look for closeup time and such for specific moves and such, I then use the wide shot for actual dance and group things. IMHO I would NOT do a split screen, as it (again in my opinion), will be distracting and take away from the presentation. As much as the parents want it to be all about their child, it was a group effort…I have had happy customers in doing this…but again…that is how I would approach it.. (And YES I am a parent too!) All I can say in Vegas Pro 10 better have some serious improvements or it’s gonna loose customers to Premiere. I have used Vegas since before it was Vegas (can’t remember the name) and Sony Products from since they were Sonic Foundry…this has been the worst release I have seen in any of the product line…more glitches and issues than ever for me….so I HOPE they are pulling out all the stops….we shall see!!

Thanks Steve…HDV is interlaced irregardless…wasn’t sure if changing to progressive was worth it….never have before, always have done interlaced…just checking options…

And is it a good idea to take interlaced footage (I shoot 1080i HDV) and make it progressive? Since there are a ton more pixels than 480p (standard DVD)…however with there only being 1 solid frame per 15 in HDV, will the end result suffer?

Yes, select 16:9. The footage will be letterboxed on older 4:3 screen..otherwise the footage will look odd. Another thing be sure that your footage is not 1440x1080i instead of 1920×1080…I made that mistake before…good luck!
