If you already have a video card for 2 displays…you could get something like the Blackmagic Intensity Pro that has HDMI out….it would also give you analog and HDMI input as well and works nicely with Vegas…

Bob…I must say your reply seemed a bit harsh. A lot of people on these forums are asking questions that are not out of the ordinary, or they may be people that are new or not from the old school or to the “pro” level of video editing you are. There may be ways around buy $200,000 gear to capture all the streams. (Like perhaps getting multiple H.264 Pro’s and an ATEM. have an HDMI splitter, send one to the ATEM and another to the H.264 PRO and that would give you a backup in AVCHD)….just saying…
I have have read two of your replies lately and they have seemed a bit harsh….we are here to learn, not be berated for asking questions, even if it teaches us something. I have appreciated some of your posts over the past months, but remember, some of us are small business owners and newbies growing, and learning, by asking questions…and not old pros like yourself…

Not all “editing” programs can accept all file formats. Vegas handles a TON of formats, and more than may others, in the past I had to convert .MOV files from Nikons using Cineform….I thought that Vegas 10 PRO now handles most .mov files as well. You have the Movie Studio HD version that may support less file formats and I think (could be wrong) that SMS HD is now up to version 10…may want to check at Sony’s website….good luck!

AVCHD is a very complex form of compression and takes a lot of CPU power to decode….that is a very under powered processor for AVCHD….

You can use either automation or use a volume envelope….the later is easier…

Color Curves allows you to boost the lightness….if you pull the center of the curve upward and to the left…adjust to taste and need. Know that it will more and likely add noise…There really is no way to work in low light without a larger sensor (better camera) without adding noise. I just bought a Vixia G10 (Canon) and I am blown away by the low light performance…about a $1500 cam…but great results…
