I use the AMD hexacore and have had awesome results….for the price I saved vs the i7….I was able to purchase other things I needed…but buy the best you can afford. Make sure RAM and Motherboard are also of high quality…I have had great luck with Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS for MB’s…..I would buy another AMD hex any day at this time…

This is EXACTLY what I needed to know!! Thank you so much!! I will look into the H.264 pro now. I am trying to switch over to AVCHD and want to keep my current HDV cam and bypass the compression. I re-encode with neoscene anyway, so there is no real issue with editing. I am not so worried about it turning progressive either, as long as I can feed it 1080i….so looks like it may be what I am looking for…thanks again so much!

I use PNGs because of the transparent background as well…I have had VERY good results with PNGs. Also, if you are using a lot of pics, be sure they are not to big for Vegas. I try to keep them near the aspect ratio I am using and around 72dpi. If you are doing pan-zooming I double that. In the past I have had a TON of trouble when using pics and having them be too large….crashes galore! Then I found out about the size thing and Vegas, when I do a Ken Burns style video, using almost all pics I re-size them all in Photoshop before I edit.

If you are running a 64bit system, 8 gigs or more will be helpful, if a 32bit system….you will gain nothing. Good luck!

I am not worried about the editing codec…I am interested in the picture quality..in my research, HDV has some limitations that AVCHD does not. This product is supposed to do 4.2.2 vs 4 2.0 on HDV and several other concerns as well. I shoot 5-7 cameras live and need something that is easier that like the BM Intesity and such (I use that at the studio)….

Thanks Andrew, FX1 is a Sony camcorder, I have 3 and am looking as you put it at a “new lease on the camera’s life.” I see a big difference from it’s component out (which is 1080i), and the HDV it encodes. I have downloaded the BM manual and it was quite worthless in helping me find out the info I am looking for. Since it states in the tech specs that it does 1080i (60) I suspect it will accept the signal from the camera. With it only being 20Mbps, vs 25Mbps for HDV, I was concerned about that. My AVCHD camera does 24Mbps, and the “pro” version of it does 50Mbps and 4.2.2…I am not sure how the BM H.264 Pro can do 4.2.2. and only 20Mbps…in any case I think I may give it a try based on your input…thanks again so much!

So do you feel the HD quality of the H.264 output is BETTER than an HDV compression? I am hoping to get several of these to capture from the imager of my Sony FX1’s to computer bypassing the HDV format…thanks for your input…sounds promising so far!
