You can do one of two things, select only one of the two tracks (by double clicking inside that channel of the waveform), and then process each side independently. OR is you are coming into SF from Vegas, duplicate your audio track, select to work with only left channel on one and right channel on the other and then edit in SF with each individually….make sense?

I have used Sound Forge since version 4 and when “Sonic Foundry” was still around!!! Sound Forge is an audio editor, and operates as such, in an almost destructive manner. There is no real “reason” that I have found for it to operate like Vegas. But then I have had an audio studio since 1997 and that has been my main stereo editor and mastering program since before video was able to be edited on a computer.
Enough with my POV, HOW did you mute the track would be my question…. In my experience, SF works in a series of steps, and once you change something, you have to go “back” through all of your changes to undo that mute…

I usually put a compressor on the channel and the wave rider on a bus. I use it a lot for plays and such where individual voctals vary GREATLY. It helps with a good overall level…
ALL the Wsves stuff is really good, I like the C1 for a basic compressor and RChannel works great for vocals as well, so decent presets to start with…Good luck

I find that hard to believe as well. I also question the needing to have power off. I have been doing firewire since 2002 with cameras and constantly hot swap them. However, perhaps I am just asking for trouble…but I digress.
I would see if you have an older computer (laptop, anything really) that runs Win XP or an older system and try connecting them to that. I had issues with Sony Vegas allowing me to capture via DV and after like an hour, I went to my old XP laptop, opening Vegas 9 and flew it in without a hitch. It could be legacy drivers as stated above. There are SO MANY REASONS to keep on older Win XP box or laptop around for such needs in my opinion…Good luck and hope it is not 4 bad ports. If it is and you don’t have a ton of money, you can download the repair manuals and swap out a firewire port FAIRLY easily. I had one go bad on an FX7 I used to have (cable was tripped over) and it took about an hour…

Macbooks still have firewire, and you can dual boot to have Windows for Vegas. You may check Alienware and Lenovo for their upper end stuff that may still have firewire and/or an Express Card slot.
PCMCIA is pretty much dead….
I also have purchased numerous older Dells that have both PCMCIA and firewire to have when I need to use firewire. I used to have 4 Sony FX1’s for multicam shoots and each would have a laptop for backup.I have switched to cameras with chips now and am VERY happy I did. However I still need firewire for my audio interfaces when recording audio. Thank God they still have firewire on upper end motherboards!!

CANON Vixia HF-G10 is the same camera as the XA-10 without XLR inputs and 32GB more internal memory. I have 5 of them for multicam shoots and LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! I use a Zoom H4N ($299_for needed XLR inputs and gives me 4 channels of recording. a 32GB SDHC chip is $30, so I save a bunch of money!! Same lens and sensor used on their entire X100 & X105 cams as well….these
If you are willing to buy refurbed you can get 2 of the G10’s for about $2000 if you look on Canon’s website….There is not a control I cannot access that I use regularly, BUT there are a fair amount of menus, but you can program a few buttons if you wish…
