Perhaps I misspoke, it would seem odd that Vegas does not have a 1080p format with a built in preset, as that is a very common format. I set all the parameters in the project presets to match the original clip.
1080
Progressive
59.94
1.0 – Square
etc for a NON interlaced video stream

I just find it odd that the resulting video is SO diminished in quality vs the original.

I am familiar with all of what you stated above. I do a TON of videos and such for online. My only difference is the 1080p vs 1080i and the 38mbps. But when I render out footage from a 1080i 24mbps clip from the same camera it looks better, so I am trying to find out what Vegas wants to do with a format it may not have a template for…make sense?

My understanding is that the GTX series above the 500 does nothing to add in GPU preview speed/quality? That code for Vegas doesn’t handle the newer drivers or something. Saw that on this forum. Also, I am using the one the was recommended for Vegas 11 (in the initial tests that they had run), but yes we are at SVP 12. I am ONLY using it for preview quality, not rendering speed…so is the 700 series still worth the cost? Just wondering.

I run a 128GB SSD and they have been fine, everything else is on or going to other HDDs. Wouldn’t go back from an SSD for anything. I have been using AMD’s for a while now and have had good luck with them, but I just need a better preview than I am getting, I have to work with Preview Full/Half to keep fades from dropping frames, and it is the same with or without GPU on…not sure if it the newer GPU’s are helping or not. Saw a decent improvement with the 8 core over 6, but again, a little concerned with the above driver issue and Vegas not using the horsepower of the GPU’s.

I should have said I have been using SSD drives for my system drive for quite some time….it REALLY makes a difference!!!

Thanks John, really appreciate the input, but like Al said below, I need something that works on both OS’s….FCPX does not. I understand the CC issue, but it would be for my employee to deal with and not me, as I will continue to work in Vegas.

I just use TV monitors from Walmart. Vizio has some 22″ for like $158 or so, 1080p. If you are planning on doing numerous shoots in the future they will come in handy. Once you get cabling to go from HDMI to RGB or SDI and yada yada, you will run into a bit of cash too. Also, if you can get something with picture in a picture, you can see more than one at a time.
Do your cameras support wifi? Sometimes that helps with just framing as well.

I use an ATEM TVS for IMAG and various recording shoots as well. It gives you a multi-view which is every camera, and allows up to 4 HDMI inputs and another HD-SDI….but it runs about $1000.

What about rendering time from the project using nested clips? I have quite a few FX’s in each number, pan/crop, noise reduction, color grading and such…will any of this matter at the final render?

That is correct Stephen, however if you highlight only one track in SF it plays back ONLY that track….you can edit left and right tracks separately, also, you could create a new mono track and copy the info from left or right into that and edit it, and then copy it back and overwrite it after you process it….
Sonar and Cool Edit are more of DAW’s verses SF being an editor…
