Yo Cut, You can’t “open” a .eps in P-Shop without it rasterizing. To use it as a vector file in P-Shop do the following:
1. Create a new PS doc, set dimensions according to final output.
2. In “File” pulldown menu, select “Place”: navigate to and select/place the desired .eps file.
3. The file will appear on a new layer with a rectangular bounding box around it. You can scale the .eps without degradation at this point by grabbing a corner. Note that to retain original aspect ratio you must hold down shift key WHILE scaling.
4. After size is set, hit enter key to rasterize file and set it into layer. Any scaling of layer now will produce artifacting.
An eps file can be manipulated in After Effects without rasterizing, which is nice.
Good luck. Scimmy -
Did you say J-Bay? Definetely JEALOUS! If you could apply the flop effect on that reef I may move there(goofy). Remember, bring a gun (a fast surfboard) to outrun the sharks(great whites) and keep the kids inside the nets! That is my kind of holiday break. Have fun Francois. As for the rest of you guys, stop calling my dual 2G old! I’m processing all flavors of HD uncompressed 10 bit with no problems. There is way to many variables coming with the leap, and not enough upside to chuck a solid system. WHY? TS

I get weird duplicated clips in the new offline project that MedMan. creates. These may indicate the correct NEW CLIP duration in the browser column, but when either dup clip is batch captured it tries to capture the entire “ORIGINAL MASTER CLIP”
duration, which may be massive. These clips usually are source media for a “speed-modified” clip in the timeline.
Also when batch-capping the new offline HD clips, certain clips will abort with an error indicating TC breaks that are not present on the source tape. I think this may have to do with the speed of the disk you are capturing to. I get this error with my 4-way stripe but not my 6-way set, despite using the same dual channel scsi card. -
David- Which problem did you figure out? i have had my recent troubles with FCP 4.5 & 5 with Kona drivers from 1.0 up to 1.1.2. Never have installed 1.1.3 yet. I don’t get phantom TC breaks with uncompressed SD, nor HD to DV D-con thru the Kona2. Just HDCam uncompressed 8 or 10 bit. I think it is drive speed related. I dunno tho. TS

I have this problem ONLY when capturing at high res HD. I have a 6-way stripe set & a 4-way set in the same dock (ul4d 2 channel SCSI) . I think I’ve isolated the prob to capturing to the slower set. I get the error “detected TC break” where there isn’t one. The dreaded PHANTOM. This is my thought- it means TC break on the media saved on the capture drives, not the source tape. Any arguments? The MediaManager is still a bust as far as I see. It creates a dup clip for every speed effect & tries to capture big chunk of media when it’s not needed. I’ve tried all the posted methods and I refuse to do the lame workarounds. I just re-log, recapture & re-edit the bad clip if FCP balks. My own lame workaround.I also own an Mac Avid Adrenaline but am back to FCP to serve the HD clients. I’ve used FCP since its inception & find it a workable but frustrated Avid wannabe.I might think different if every solution wasn’t a sketchy workaround. All the hopeful FCP editors who flood the job market better look before they leap. This is not the app that will accomodate work flow, not for a while anyway. In an Avid, uprezzing is fun. In FCP it makes my stomach hurt. A low price doesn’t excuse poor performance. TS

Whoa, what was the question? The answer for HD delivery media will be dictated by “the broadcaster you serve”(TBYS). It will be one of a few tape choices that TBYS offers due to the fact it has to execute media playback & recording with vcr simplicity. File delivery won’t happen til there is only one,(or three) proprietary, hard-copy formats TBYS requires you to deliver in. The more things change… As for upconverted SD, TBIS says no thanks. TS

April 18, 2005 at 4:32 am in reply to: Adrenaline HD vs. FCP – Don’t want advice, just comparisonsI have relied on the Avid market for work for 11 years. In lean times during the early 00’s, DV was king & FCP running on the Mac G4 I use at home really saved the day, doing low budget stuff without having to cut rates too much. The app was always scary when projects got big, due to no real file management system. I actually have had project files sieze up & refuse to open, unfortunately this was before the “Autosave Vault”it now has. When biz picked up in the market I happily retreated to the Avid work & then got an Mac/Adrenaline in late ’04. The box has integrated perfectly with a Meridien house, the software is still shaky at times but overall I’m very happy due to the G5 speed, price & general ease of use that Avid is so good at. Now I have HD needs & Avid is late with the HD expansion for Mac side, which I can’t afford anyway. Re-enter FCPHD & the Kona2 capture card. I offline at DV rez, then convert the finished sequence to HD for online. FCPHD still has project instability issues with apparently the same causes & effects. There is a lot more stuff “under the hood” that you have to learn with FCPHD to get things done. Still a lot more rendering than Adrenaline and the interface still is no where near as well done as Avids. I have been starting & finishing in FCPHD up to this point, but will do my first Avid offline to FCPHD finish job shortly. I will use AutomaticDuck to move projects. I will update with results. Definetely wondering what will happen when I start having to tranlate 24p jobs this way. For daily bread, I will stay pretty close to the Avid due to market demands & stability. Hope this helps, TS

I have Kona2 w/ G5DP2ghz. I have NTSC(525) settings active in Kona2 Control Panel. Card doesn’t like the ControlTab/”Ref.In” selected despite sync gen input to KBox “ref loop” (terminated), try “free-run or video-in”. I don’t see much mention of using the Kona Control Panel app as critical to making this card work. In my short experience with this card, understanding this utility is the first step to Kona2 happiness. There is one way to make this card do what you want in a given set of I/O parameters. If the Kona app does’t match the app in control, the card is totally useless. I would pay an extra fifty bucks for a PRINTED manual. This is one that needs reading. TS

W- I get a couple of capture-abortive errors with my AdrenaMac. Usually with component input. A restart after changing input types (SDI to Comp) will avert the prob. Are you using a UL3D or UL4D scsi adaptor? I just upgraded and saw a noticable improvement with regards to the bad-frames on-output that has plagued the Adrenaline. I didn’t see one until one of my dock-shuttles died… Oh well, thats striped storage for you! Good luck, TS
