Personally, I am not a big fan of the Rocket in a grading situation.
Its great for dailies, but when you debayer through the card, it spools up.
That feels like a delay when scrubbing, and I am scrubbing a lot.
I just work in half res and live with the 22fps.
Epic of course is a different beast.
There you need to either prerender or go lower.
But no, the GTX will not do any number crunching on that…you just get more nodes.A slice of color…

There is no power issue, I am not using external power.
The other two card I am using are a eSata card and the 3D+ Extreme.
The system temp is fine, the GTX470 is not making much noise, the Q4000 is a little louder, but not under Resolve, more with Scratch or AE.The goal was to avoid the external box solution, which worked fine.

Hey Joseph, seems your configuration is not so bad after all and Resolve works…maybe not as expected but thats normal for a new piece of software.
fxpHD has an excellent course that will bring you up to speed within days.
Give it a week or so without questions, just watching and doing.
Some of the concepts are different from Color or something, but nether less powerful.

I guess after the initial rebranding and a lot of Adobe minded users complaining, they will turn it into a plugin for premiere or AE which would get rid of that color finesse thing.

The 4000 is a great (coughcough) primary card.
It really makes the Mac speedy an flickable.
For computing only the 470 or two or three are the best today.
Faster than the 4800 for a fraction of the cost.
We can only hope for a new generation of cards in April 2012.A slice of color…

The Audio should pass the render.
It should be integrated into the Quicktime file.
It should be transcoded to the settings of choice.
It should read multiple audio files instead of just one file.
It should sync to audio and drop frames rather than chop audio.
It should extract audio on the fly from streaming sources.
It should had a dedicated audio timeline.
…and audio effects…
and Blu-Ray authoring !!uhhh…where to draw the line ??
Sound is part of finishing..I grade best when listening to Pink Floyd.
But export at least the soundfile that matches the timeline with its offsets would be nice, yes.A slice of color…

Its works like that in other systems..
Call it : Process on Play for example.
Whenever you play through something once, it could write the images to disk.
Or when you execute a full render it would do that without real-time playback.
The cache is DPX ( should be EXR ) and should be kept until you decide to flush it.
When you set the timeline to cache its a little like that, interactive, in the BG , but flaky and unpredictable.
Also you loose it all when closing or changing projects.
So what if you could do the opposite, initiate a full render to a useful file sequence and play those files on the timeline instead of the source plus grading.

Yeah, wouldnt it be great that function that warns you you are using the same folder for a render would actually give you an option to skip or overwrite files ?
Rendered clips also should be used as cache files and as soon as you touch the grading , they would go back to interactive mode.A slice of color…
