But even leaving the quality issue aside for a second. How’s it possible, that the trillions of Color version in 16bit environment is smaller file size than the 8bit version?

Yup, just had a look Movielogger is great – a bit pricy though 🙁
And unfortunately FCP 6 is missing the feature of exporting the marker text.

Now, here’s a Nut to crack:
Again the specs first original footage DNxHD Avid Codec 1920*1080, 25p, PAL converted in AE CS4 to ProRes HQ.
I made two versions, one – ProRes HG Trillions of color in a 16bit project, then Millions of Color, same ProRes in a 8bit Project and here the result:

I could not see on tiny bit of difference, even not when scaled up to 400-600%, but most strange thing was: The 8bit Millions of Color File was large, then its 16bit brother.

    How come.
    Me not understand.

    Hi Raphael,

my conversion expert: A question. I have material, NTSC 29.97 frames interlaced, not sure upper or lower, but since it’s NTSC i guess it’s lower, no?
I have to convert it to PAL 25p.
The dimensions are 1920*1080 and it’s an .mov file – avid meridien Codec.
Is it now better to compress first in Compressor to 25 fps and then in AE with Magic Bullett Progressive, or making it immediately inside Compressor Progressive?

    Thanx.

Me neither…and even more: I also converted the frame rate 29.97 to 25.
I did all the same with Clipwarp & Media Encoder – and Toast pretty much stood up to it.
Things you definitely would not expect!

    Respect to Toast!

This sounds so weird, never heard of it before.
Maybe you should check if your house is build on an old indian graveyard and you have a Poltergeist in the house ;-)! Then Up for sale would be your next step.
I feel you – I hate this kind of problems – they make you helpless cause you do not find the solution – it’s like fighting a ghost.
If you find a workaround let me know – i am interested in it.

Tried that one right now…very good result.
Still: Toast is equally good. I am surprised myself, but it does hell of a Job!
