If I were you, I would upgrade to FCP 7 anyway – there is many differences, also the Compressor got some heavy improvements.
In case you also work with AE and PS, I’d even think about a switch to PPPro, since it is by now a serious and incredible good working NLE.Greetz.

Thanx for the flowers. I wrote it last time very hasty, so now in detail again:
Drop the Movie into Compressor, apply the preset “H.264 LAN”, you can find under Web->Download-> QT 7 compatible.
Then change following parameters:
– In the Encoder Tab: Video:
+Data Rate restrict to 5000kbits/sec
+Check the box “Best Quality (Multi Pass), even though when you are short on time the faster encode is way faster and the Q difference not so big, unless there is very fast movement e.g.– In the Encoder Tab: Audio:
+ set the Audio to 160 kbps and if the sound Q is very important to 224kbps– in the Geometry Tab: Set the Frame size to 100% (if your video was 1080p, it enables a 1080 playback on YT). The video I posted before was encoded at 100%.

Go for VIMEO, way better compression.
In Compressor: Apply the Quicktime 7/Download/LAN Presetting and adjust:Put the bandwitdth of the video to 5000kb/s, better multi-pass encoding, sound to 160kbs, and set the frame size to 100% (when your source material was 1080p).
In my experience that is the best settings.

Hi Andrew,
just to make sure I got you right: You are putting ALL the clips of your project in a chronological order on the TL, drop all the audio under it, more or less in the right place and then you export this as XML (which I think, you do not have to do, you can just choose the right SEQ from out PE). Once PE synced, you get the result in an own TL Sequence in FCP and then you use this as sort of Browser to work from and pick your clips?
I have more than 700 clips! I do hope, that there is also an easier way. I hoped, you could somehow import all, video & audio, into the Browser of FCP, select all the clips and give a command to PE to sync all of them.
Or is that only my wishful thinking taking over me?Sascha Engel

You are referring to applying the LUT inside FCP or COLOR?
How you apply it? LUT Buddy from Red Giant?About sharpening – you are talking about dosing it very carefully and not over doing it?
Which one is the Best for inside FCP? Neat, Lyric or FX Factory? What are their price marks?Thanx a lot again!

But your workflow, needs to make already a decision of shots and putting it roughly into the right order in the TL.
But let’s say I have 7 takes from the same scene and I have no idea yet, how I wanna edit it, but I’d like all the master clips in the Browser to be paired, synced and merged with the right audio files, is there a way to do that?Thanx.

Actually, I do it since quiet a while.
Certainly I ain’t Van Gogh of the colorists, but I think I do a quiet good job.
I just never used this color profile and therefor wanted to know if there’s any booby trap in post with it,
That I should look out for.
I agree with Michael, what he says about sharpening.
But can it be, if the theatre projects the movie in SD in the end, that the sharpening will result in moire and jagged ages when resizing it, so it might be beneficial for the SD version to keep it slightly soft?Sascha Engel
