  • Upgrading from FCP 6 on a G5 to 7 on a Mac Pro

    Hi
I’m currently running FCP Studio 2, FCP 6.0.2 on an old PowerMac G5. I’m planning to invest in a new Mac Pro, and I wonder if my FCP Studio 2 will run on the new Mac Pro?
If I want to upgrade to FCP Studio 3 and FCP 7, will an upgrade be enough or will I need the full retail version?

If I were you, I would upgrade to FCP 7 anyway – there is many differences, also the Compressor got some heavy improvements.
In case you also work with AE and PS, I’d even think about a switch to PPPro, since it is by now a serious and incredible good working NLE.

    Greetz.

Good luck finding the upgrade or full retail version. FCS 3 has been discontinued. Your alternatives are FCP X, Adobe CS 6 (your best option) or Avid Media Composer 6.5.

No problem finding a FCP7/Studio3. But then, that was not my question. Will FCP 6 run on an Intel Mac, and will I need a Full retail or an upgrade?
