HI Thanx for the fast Reaction. I tried it, but I am facing some problems. I can just select always some keyframes in a row – then the smoother ‘apply’ button highlightens. When I select all in one line – it stays greyed out. And I do not have options to choose (just spatial). When it’s set to 1 it seems to make it even jerkier than it was 🙁

Any idea?

Sorry, now I got you.
Make a new project, import you HD file into the Media Browser, Create a New Sequence (Timeline) and go into the Setting of that sequence (shortcut Command/Apple + “0”). There adjust the Sequence settings to what you need – DV-PAL, 4to3 – make sure the Anamorphic Box stays unchecked. Then Drop your HD clip into that Timeline – it will be forced into those settings then. From There go to “File”->”Export”->”Quicktime Movie”. Leave it then to “Current Settings”, which you already adjusted to PAL 4to3…and DONE. You get a Quicktime movie 4to3, DV-PAL

What is the problem? Just import the QT, drop it into the timeline – so FCP creates the right settings for it and run it from there to Tape. Easy and safe.

Not a good format. I would ask the camera crew, if they still have the original files from the Memo Card – then with the Log&Transfer mode inside final cut, import these into your project – it will be in QT Apple Pro-Res files. Neither Avi or H.264 are good codecs to edit in – very compressed.
Make sure the crew gets you the original files.

Hi,

first of all your settings are o.k. to load the stuff to FCP.
The first Problem is that you went for “Letterboxing”, which is normal 4:3, just cropping the top & Bottom with Letterboxes.
There’s a way, to give you the 16:9 again, but that is rather complicate and you will lose some resolution.
The DVD I would make in DVDSTP – First Compress the finished film with Compressor, then Build a DVD in DVD Studio Pro, a Video_TS Folder, this Folder you can burn then with Roxio Toast.

P.S.: If you have, run the Magic Bullet – so you make progressive frames from the interlaced footage – will look much better.

thanx for all the advice. Guess that is how AE shows it then, just surprised about that FCP shows it so much better.

For the Green Screen lighting: We had amazing lights on the set. The GS is something I came up with the last second – so we had just 10min to build it and the lights there were lousy. The result with Keylight is pretty decent though. I will show you the final clip

For the capturing – Yes I use most of the tape and log and capturing each clip seperatly is something I used to do.
I figured out that I work much faster, loading the whole tape (also better for the DV Deck – not always play and stop) and then I create Sub-Clips. At the end I trim the footage with the Media Manager to the Actual footage I need – for me goes a lot faster than the other way – and I tried both.

Thanx for the advice. I did that also, but it just got a bit better. Still looked much worse than in the Canvas in FCP. Why FCP and QT shows the image in such higher quality than AE? I am really surprised about that.
