  • Thanks guys. Ideally I need something that we can take with us, so that we can edit on the move as we go along as the deadline is so, so tight. I would like to keep as much picture quality as possible, that’s why they gave us DigiBeta so unless there is no other workaround I wouldn’t want to go other route than SDI.

Aren’t there any I/O cards that work with Avid? I know Avid is a close system, but I am sure there must be someone who’s been in a similar situation than us and has worked out a way to ingest SDI…. I might as well be wrong

Otherwise we will go FCP I think….

    Any successful stories?

    Cheers

I remember some threads in the Avid.com forums about this issue. Check them out.

Glad it helped you. Honestly, I had last week someone offlining a feature film documentary on a Mac Powerbook laptop Using Xpress pro and they were having problems pulling out a OMFI for the audio studio. I took the whole drive, wacked it into my PC running Avid and opened it, just like that. Now, most people would be “are you crazy!!!” but the Avid took it without a hitch, straight from a mac, rough as it sounds. It worked flawless.

You can imagine the face of the editor when I took the entire drive and plugged it into my PC, No matter how many times I told her it would be fine. Only when she saw the entire project opened up and the media playing on my broadcast monitor that she managed to sit back and relax.

Honestly, some of the best spent money an editor should consider.

    Cheers

Check a program called MACDrive. It allows PC’s to read/write Mac drives. I partitioned and formatted my lacie drive in a powerbook and use the partition to work on projects that might be used on different platforms. Obviously you need to have MAcdrive installed in the PC you are connecting the drives, otherwise windows won’t recognise the drives and will ask you to format.

Hope this helps. Check apple’s website
