Home user of Avid express pro, had v 4 for year, always worked fine. This morning tryed to start it up, goes thru loading screen then shuts down, no error screen, nuthing. Same with Aftereffects… tried a number of times, rebooted, removed recently installed progs, reinstalled Avid, same thing… opens up, starts reading files, closes down. Only thing new since last succcessful use is upgrade from FX 5200 video card to 6600gt… could that be it?

Sometimes the hotfixes for windows screw the program up big time. Check out recent updates and unistall them

They should all be listed in Add/Remove Programs.
Start with the last one and work forward til problem is fixed, if that is the problem.

OK… removed all hotfixes since Jan… edited in Feb adn viewed in March, all was ok then. Still same problem. Loading screen comes up,see files being loaded… gets as far as ‘audio’, then back to desktop, no message, nothing… any other thts? Most annoyingly, I did one system restore back a month or so and Avid worked, briefly… after restore XP loaded in 800×600 res, i loaded up AVID and it worked fine, ok i tht, nornality restored. Then i tried moving back to 1280×1024, the res id been working in fine b4 on FX5200… didn’t like that. Back to original problem. Wasn’t able to restor back anymore after that… System restore failure at every attempt.

See if you can install a newer version of the drivers or at least use the one that comes with your Avid

You say you recently installed a new Nvidia gfx card.

Was everything working o.k up til then?

Have you ever had it working with your new card?

what nvidia drivers are you using?

have you made any other changes between it working o.k and not?

    cheers RD

Think im making headway… after 12 hours trying to figure it all out yeasterday, switched back my 5200 card this am, and low and behold, Avid works. So, reinstalled my 6600gt card, but not driver… it works. Then installed driver and it didn’t, shuts down as ‘initializing audio’… so, gonna try latest drivers from nVidia site and see what happens… Might be Gigabyte utilities n drivers
