as far as i know targa’s are only 8 bit files. selecting 32 bit in the render queue only means you’ll have an alpha. if trillions of colors is grayed out then you have picked a format that doesn’t support 16 bit per channel files.

Use the type tool. click and drag a type area just as you to in illustrator, then the text will wrap according to the rules you set in the paragraph palette.

I took a class from Chris Meyer on delivering hd. the first thing he did was hold up a list of possible format combinations they had delivered to different clients. then he revealed that there were 3 pages of options. Chris emphasized over and over again that you must ask the person receiving the project exactly what they want because there are so many options that you will almost always have to do it again if you just guess. If Chris Meyer has to ask, so do you….

September 3, 2006 at 4:57 pm in reply to: compositing and HDV…is it any easier to pull mattes that regular dv??i have worked with hdv footage and it’s way better than dv. the cameras make better pictures and the image is much clearer even though the data rate is the same as dv. as far as keying here’s what I did. Brought in the sony hdv footage at full 1080i, sized it down to 720p and rendered an animation codec master. Pulled my key, which was much better than dv ever could be, then output a 720p h264 codec quicktime for playback on a macbook pro for a trade show directly to a 40″ plasma through the dvi connector plugged into the macbook and rendered a standard widescreen dvd at 720 X 480 for delivery to the client. The dvd looked much better than similar footage shot on dv a year ago.
the footage was captured with fcp using the apple intermediate codec. The difference between this project and a similar one that i did last year was amazing. i just wish i could afford an hdv camera of my own.
one note…. watch out for storage space for the 720p animation codec renders. they are huge.

Make sure you call the adobe store. i did something similar and saved a bunch because all my old stuff qualified for an upgrade at a lower cost.

value +
as in [value + [0], 300]
this would let you animate the X position using keyframes while holding the Y position to 300 pixels….

took a class from chris meyer once and he mentioned that different comp sizes and frame rates required different scroll and roll speeds to avoid jumpiness caused by the relationship between the speed, distance, and frame rate. IOW HD requires different speeds than DV because it’s farther across the frame and 25 fps requires different speeds than 30, etc…. He urged all in the audience to hit up their clients for additional charges for doing the same basic design for different formats because, to make them work, you have to do more than just resize the project

for quicktime i always render animation codec highest quality, then for the web, use quick time pro to export Sorrenson or H264. QT pro will do a much better job compressing than AE because it can look ahead and behind all ready rendered frames to produce better results and smaller file sizes.
