  • Hi,

I’ll clear up. It’s best to keep the application on a seprate partition of boot disk rather than on raid or boot partition e.g first 20 gb as boot partion having only xp. remaing 60 gb as second partions having all your applications.

    this is recomended because
a: the boot partiotion gets less fragmented and your os runs cleanly and at a good speed. remember your ram cache also goes into your os/boot partition.
b: some of your applications temp file increase their size with use. os if some applications temp file if gets increased it does not hamper the performence of the os

You can also make a small 5-6gb partition on your boot disk and dedicate it to ram caching(page file).

    best of luck

    hi,
I would like to report that i have been using a non lacie single disk firewire 400 disk on a fcp @ 10 bit, just to capture and then bring the footage to my decklink pc sucessefully for quite some time now. so even a single drive is also just good enough for capture and simple palyback. with my decklink speed test i used to get around 32 mbs. though for complex timeline and edits it’s better to have raid as you get better seek time.

  • Hi,
yes there is a noticeble difference in component and sdi. why dont you purchase decklink or pro or decklinkextreme as most of your footage is in digital betacam, so use sdi.

You should ideally purchase one 80 gb sata for a boot/os drive. make a 20 gb partition for os and use the remainder for installing applications and storing some other data.
250×3 will perform better than 320×2. or you can add the third 320 later. but 250 gbs are much cheaper now. though you can use ide drive also for boot then you can use 250×4 as raid if you want. I had the below mentioned configuration on a dell machine for sometime 80gb ide as boot drive and 250gbx2 on the two sata ports as raid. the machine used to work fine. Using internal raid is not a problem and safe. make shure you use a compatible case with decent cooling. 250gbx2 also gives a decent speed for SD.

now i use a 80 gb as boot 250×4 as raid.
between sata/ide os drive remember 7200 rpm ide drive will give you around 32 mbs and sata around 50+ mbs. so your os and application will run faster on a sata drive

October 21, 2006 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Installing Decklink on a Dell

    Hi,
I am sucessfully using a dell server sc1420 with decklink extereme from last two years. Try removing all other cards and check or if you have a spare graphics card, try that. remember you have to start installation from the driver file directly not from the found new hardware found wizard.

you can even remove the graphics card and boot from the video out of decklink. and check weather the dell throws the same error.

I had never seen such an error.
check decklink card on any other pc with a pci slot. does it give the same error?

    best of luck

    Hi,
Is every thing in your time line rendered ? just play the sound without video(video track off) and listen if sound drops or skips or changes speed.

    good luck

    Hi,

That should work. Disconnect the tv and try again. Why dont you purchase a simple graphic card with tv out. Nvidias are very cheap. Purchase one with 1vga out and 1tv out or if you can afford dual dvi plus tv out like 6600 or G550 from matrox.
It’s very difficult to edit while monitoring on tv out through dv because the dv out is delayed about 2-3 secs. So your timeline and internal monitor will be out of sync. When you press space bar to stop the video will actually stop 2-3 secs late. This make it difficult to edit and choose out points.

    good luck

  • Hi,
I guess a support for online jpeg quality is what i need, if i want to capture really long footage.

    thanks

January 14, 2006 at 12:05 pm in reply to: Driver problem since 5.1.1

    Hi,
Very rightly said about dell systems.
I am also using a del sc1420 server since dec 2005
    Dual xeon 2.8, 800 fsb
    3 gb ram
    3 sata 1 disks raid giving 165mbps/145mbs
    6600 graphic card
    without any problem
(except one driver realted problem of audio sync on master, which lot of other people have, having even more robust systems and even g5)

other wise system works rock solid. initally i used the ati 16mb pci card which came with the system without any problms. But now i have installed a 16x pci express n vidia 6600 on the 8x slot. though i have to file the slot to make it accept it. The card work fine.

I guess blackmagic does not certify dell systems because most of them does not have a 16x pci express slot used for graphic cards, except 670.
