    Thanks for your response.

    This Mac Mini always had Lion. But FCP Studio was installed from a disk image since there’s no disc drive.

    Thanks so much everyone. I really appreciate this community.

    Somehow changing the preferences in Quicktime to use the camera in it’s recording settings allowed FCP to “see” it… Or else the fact that it started to work right after I did that was an eery coincidence…

    I will apply all of these tips on the Mac Pro that has only 800 firewire next time I capture on it.

    You know there were a few I haven’t tried. I did manage to get it to work with Firewire 400 on another computer, but I’ll those few tips I haven’t tried. There were more replies there than I realized thanks for pointing it out…

    Try changing the location of your capture scratch, see if that makes a difference. Try setting it in your documents area, and also on your desktop, see if that changes anything.

    Also, try throwing out your Final Cut Pro User Data.

    To find that, navigate from Home>Library>Preferences and then once in Preferences you should find it there. Just make sure you save any plug-ins before you throw out the folder.

    Hmm… I have a mini-DV tape and a mini-DV deck and camera- capturing as ProRes requires HDV does it not?

    Thank you gentleman. Exporting this video for the web, the problem was that i forgot the width x heigth calculus. changes for the web. listening to all of you reminded me of that, and helped me solve the problem and I really appreciate it.
