I would only get the Decklink HD if you were connecting to high end decks in either SD or HD. If you are shooting in HDV for delivery in SD then I dont think it pays.

Think twice before going for the HVX200—

Rather then asking about a Deck Link card, why don’t you tell us what kind of editing you will be doing, what format you will be shooting in etc. Then we can better tell you if a decklink card would be of help.

I own the Sony and like it very much—it doesn’t do progressive (I believe the Canon does) and it doesn’t allow you to use different lenses (it can take a wide angle adapter—Century makes a good one). Its alot cheaper then the Canon and if you know what you are doing, you can get great images out of it.

Don’t worry about the Sony—its more then a couple of extra bucks—more like an extra 6000 (for the 300 model) and remember you have to buy a lense (an HD lens makes a big difference) and a whole bunch of accessories for it. I think the Canon is a good choice in your price range. The only other options in the HDV realm are the JVC, the Sony X1 etc.

I do lots of long form work and use multiple instances and project nesting. It works fine for me.

I suspect that 7 will merely allow you to handle your files the way that Connect HD does—in fact the module might be licensed from Connect HD.

My feeling is that if the client can’t afford a deck rental then its a client I don’t want.
