It’s the best camera that Panasonic had made so far. It’s their first camera to use full 1080p CCDs. Combine that with AVC-Intra, which is 10-bit, full 1920×1080 (as compared to DVCPROHD which is 8-bit 1280×1080) and it promises to be a great camera!

I like staying in HD until the very last moment if possible. Then down converting to uncompressed 10-bit NTSC.
So depending on what you’re going to be doing in AE, you might down convert it first or leave it in HD.

Nice resource Shane. Hopefully that helps Filmmagic figure things out. I still don’t know if he really meant “normal” to mean standard 2:3 pulldown or if he just figured that it’s what the “N” stood for in 24PN.
So Filmmagic, if you haven’t figured things out yet, what camera and settings were used to shoot your footage?

Glad it worked. It sounds like it should have worked how you had it originally, but just because it should work, doesn’t mean it will.

So the problem clips had speed changes applied to them originally?
If so, the best practice is to bake the speed changes into a clip. (Export the speed change as a single self contained clip and then put it on top of or replace the original clips.)
It’s really easy to mess up a clip with a speed change on it. Plus, if you’re going to be using Color for color correction, you’ll want to have the speed changes baked in as that’s one more step that can totally change the timing of your speed adjusted clips.

What do you mean by 24P “normal”?
Are you referring to 24PN on Panasonic P2 cameras?
Or are you referring to a standard 2:3 pulldown by calling it “normal”?
So where did the footage come from?

There were several Dual 2.0 G5 models that had PCI-X and only the last model that only had PCI. You might want to double check the model of your PowerMac just in case.
Another option for you is to use a AJA IO and digitize over firewire.

If it is in your project’s browser, it can find it. If not, then you’ll have to gather it another way.

I’ve used SoundTrack Pro for these kind of FX when I’ve needed them. It’s fun to and sounds together and make your own. I really like playing sounds in reverse.
But I’d also like a basic library of swooshes and other sounds like you’re talking about.
