  • Gathering Folders: Media/Source Materials/Files

After Effects has a simple function that gathers all folders/files/media etc… associated with a project for easy organization. It’s a handy way to make sure all the elements of a given project are transfered to my portable drives when I’m editing in other locations.

Does anyone know if FCP has a feature like this?

    Thanks.

Yes. It’s the Media Manager. It’s not as simple to use and AE’s, but it will get the job done.

NOTE: If FCP says it has a problem with reconnecting a clip, look into it because 50% of the time, it’s not lying. As for the other 50%, well we just learn to live with it.

Figured that’s where it might be, I’ll look into it… I’ve always steered clear of FCP’s Media Manager. But will it also find other files (besides media-footate) associated with the project like Live Type, Motion, Photoshop, Music etc?
    Thanks,

If it is in your project’s browser, it can find it. If not, then you’ll have to gather it another way.

    Hi

FWIW you can use media manger, but its really designed to “clean up” the project once you are done editing, either to archive stuff, or make room on your media disks for recapturing at a higher resolution.

its also useful for making low rez copies of high rez media, allowing you to offline edit a High Def or Uncompressed project on a laptop. (supposedly ProRes 422 has made this possible without having to media manage)

The best thing you can do, as well as the fastest, is to keep all your folders ie file directories organized at the Finder level, and then you can just copy one folder and all your stuff is there

Larry Jordan, who is a reliable FCP guru, has a system that seems pretty foolproof.

    hope this helps
