It is likely a problem with the fluorescent lights in the doctors office causing a flicker on your progressive image, but without seeing a frame, it’s hard to say.

While there still might be some small bugs in FCP6, none of them have out weighted the benefit of all the new features.

I’ve used FCP5 for some projects and it drives me crazy not to have the new FCP6 features.

There are two times when I see this warning normally:

1. When the tape is cued to a place where no timecode is recorded (often the very end of the tape). For this, just rewind the tape until there is video.

2. When the tape was digitized within 3 seconds of the start of the tape. This doesn’t give enough room for the 3 second pre-roll. It seems like there is a way to change this, but I don’t know how.

There is also the possibility that some sequence settings or cables are set up right.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Can you give some more info like how you digitized and what you shot on?

Also, when you say frequency lines, what do you mean? Strobing cause from fluorescent lights or something?

What deck settings need to be change so the new tape will be able to be digitized over SDI at 23.98?

If you’re finishing to 23.98, I’d use cinema tools to conform it from 25fps to 23.98. It will slow the footage down by something like 4%, but it will be smooth.

If you’re finishing to 29.97, then I’d use Natress Standards Converter.

If you just let it be, FCP and Compressor don’t handle the conversion well and it will look choppy.

While XDCAM, HDV and DVCPROHD are all being used for broadcast, the most edit friendly of the three is DVCPROHD. I say this because it’s the least processor intensive of the bunch which means it’s easy to export and render clips.

Even if a show was shot on XDCAM or HDV, I’d be tempted to ingest them at DVCPROHD or PRORES as the editing performance it better.

But as I said, all three of the formats are being used.

Go to Library/Application Support/Pro Apps/ and rename or delete the Final Cut System ID file. Next time you open FCP, it will ask you for a new serial number.

It’s not a huge difference. When compressing a video, you might shave off 5-10 seconds off of a two minute render. For the extra $250, I’d rather get a bigger hard drive or something.

For your DVCPROHD export, I would just use the File-Export-QuickTime Movie command with current settings.

While you could also use the same command to export your DV master by changing the current settings to DV NTSC, I prefer using compressor for it. You’ll also need to decide if you DV version will be letterbox or anamorphic (compressor will support both).
