With HDV, I don’t know. I don’t use that format. If it is possible, the you’ll need to change the video playback under the view menu to firewire hdv out in whatever framerate/frame size you’re using.

Go to View – External Video – All Frames.
You also need to check the Video Playback setting under view.
What camera do you have?

The best results I’ve had with footage from a DVD is to digitize it component with our Kona LH. I’ve had other options work, but it always seems to take longer and can be temperamental sometimes.

I’ve used both of the suggested methods and would recommend either one. I’ve tried using compressor before for standards conversion, but I think the other two options give better results.

I’ve seen this problem before on my systems, but I never really use the FCP title tool for final products. We always use photoshop, motion, or after effects for our final titles.

If you’re using FCP6, then I wouldn’t redigitize the tapes. It should work fine and you’d never be able to tell the difference if you went back and captured them at DV50.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but you should be able to use all of the programs except for Color and Motion. Those might open, but would be difficult to work with because of your graphics processor.

I’m a big AJA fan and I’m still a little skeptical of MOTU getting into video. Not that they don’t have great audio products, but this is the first product and they’re competing against AJA and BlackMagic Design.
One limitation that I’ve scene from the V3HD is that it’s limited to digitizing in DVCPROHD. For some shows, it’s fine to finish in DVCPROHD. I’d rather have the options of digitizing to uncompressed with the Kona 3. I also think the that Kona 3 offers other valuable features like upconverting SD to HD and crossconverting 720P and 1080i.
Plus the Kona 3 is made by AJA, a great company know for top notch support.
