Final Cut Studio 2 on MacBook??
I know the system requirements and the obvious limitations of the integrated graphics chip for Motion and the like, but I’m running a 2.16 ghz system with 4GB RAM and I just want to know if I’ll be able to install the software at all. Just for small tasks, like logging, or off-line low res testing. I know on older systems I couldn’t even install motion with an inferior graphics card. Please advise.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but you should be able to use all of the programs except for Color and Motion. Those might open, but would be difficult to work with because of your graphics processor.

Yes, FCS2 runs just fine on a MacBook. I have a 2.16GHz MacBook w/ a pathetic 1GB of RAM. All FCS applications launch and run fine, but yes, Motion and Color run with all the grace and aplomb of a drunken hippo in platform shoes. I don’t use the MacBook as a primary editing station, but it’s fine for lots of applications. Logging, Capturing (to FW400 drives, no 800 bus), simple assemblies, etc. all work just fine on the MacBook! That said, I’ve only worked with Offline quality footage on the MacBook… I leave the HD Online work to the Mac Pros! 🙂
