The cost of an upgrade is what, $400. Is delaying your education in editing worth $400? If you have the time to get going on it now, it will be worth the money. If you’re serious about getting into this, you need to really dig in. Worry about the upgrade later after you get a paying gig.

I really think that AJA’s Ki Pro with a 5D is going to be a great match. That way, you don’t have to record to a non-edit friendly codec like H264. In addition, you can use the Ki Pro to record the audio.
It’s really a natural fit.

HDMI does not carry any timecode or RP188 flagging info. “And they’re spelled differently.

I’ll just add that for the first time, people can upgrade their HD camera without having to buy a new one. This is going to add new life to a lot of those “aging” HD cameras.
