In FCP you select where the CONTENTS folder is. So putting each “reel” in different folders works great.

Common sense says that AVID should have a way to do it, but I can’t help you out here? Anyone else?

You can use a 1200 or 1400 deck to crossconvert 720P to 1080i. It looks great. The settings are in the video settings of the menu. On the 1200 it is menu item 630 or 632, you’ll have to look.

If you get a 1200 deck, get it with the HDSDI card in it.

I end up bluring the images in selected areas quite a bit in photoshop. The “open in external editor” feature in FCP provides a good round trip.

Duplicate your masters though. Photoshop can be distructive to photos if you’re not careful.

I’ve got the same wish here as I have the Panasonic 1200 deck. At NAB, AJA sounded like they pulled some strings with Apple to start getting serious about timecode. With QT 7.1.6 being able to display timecode, things look promising.

Dang again, I hate waiting.

I’m not a beta tester, but if it isn’t compatible, then Apple will have 800,000 really, really made customers!!!!!

It’s all QuickTime based. As Jeremy said, if it works in QuickTime 7.1.6 (which was updated for FCP6) then it should work in FCP6 too.

You need to import it from the original P2 folder again (the CONTENTS folder on the P2 card). Though something tells me that some of you might have discarded that information after you imported your clips to FCP.

NOTE: P2 CONTENTS folder is like your tape master. You wouldn’t ever throw a tape away because it was digitized?

So in the P2 Import window, click on the advanced gear looking button on the top middle of the window. Select Preferences. Select Remove Advance Pulldown and Duplicate Frames.

Give that a shot.

If you don’t have the P2 CONTENTS folder, then you’re going to have to try to figure out something in Cinema Tools or the Frame Rate Converter Tool. Let me know if you get to that point.

Really, the first thing you need to tell us though is if your footage has a pulldown. If so, what pulldown is it?

Response from AJA support:

The TC input will allow you to capture TC into FCP such as capturing live
video from a camera with LTC.

Not sure what will happen if TC is not present since we don’t have one yet
to test with. My guess is the TC goes to 0:00:00 or you perhaps TC break
message…don’t know for sure.

That’s why I love AJA!!!! They respond!!!! It’s worth the money!!!!

So the real question is less about what AJA will do and more about what FCP6 will do. I’m hoping that you can switch FCP6 to external timecode like you can a deck. And if there are timecode breaks, then it will make a new clips (after it’s been digitized in). Not likely to happen, but here’s to hoping!
