Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy 720p to 1080i

    Greetings all.

I’ve just started my first HD project. The source tapes are a mix of HDCam and DVCPRO at 720p (I think). I’m working in a 1080i 29.97 sequence, since that is what the majority of the footage is. We will be renting a deck next week to digitize the 720 material, so my question is this: What is the best way to capture the 720 footage to work in my 1080i sequence?

    FCP 5.1.4
    Kona LH card

I was tooling around the posts and saw something about converting thru the deck on capture. Is that possible? I know ProRes 422 will make this easier, but my deadline is before its release.

    Any help is appreciated.

You can use a 1200 or 1400 deck to crossconvert 720P to 1080i. It looks great. The settings are in the video settings of the menu. On the 1200 it is menu item 630 or 632, you’ll have to look.

If you get a 1200 deck, get it with the HDSDI card in it.

Make sure the deck has HD-SDI output and make the cross convert in the deck.
