DV files look horrible in QT unless High Quality is selected.
Open the movie in QT
Select Window-Show Movie Properties
Select the Video Track
Select Visual Settings
In the lower right of the window select High QualityThis should play the DV files back right.

If there are any interlaced frames you either didn’t remove the pulldown or you removed it wrong. What is the timebase of you sequence? What is the frame rate of your clips?

Delete your preferences every time you want to open FCP. Not suggested.
Capture scratch location is based on user settings, not by project. Maybe someone would write a script that when you open a project, it copies preferences associated to that project into the preferences folder.
I can see the advantages of having it go to one folder, but it would be nice to be able to decide how it works in the preferences folder.

You could do a test in Cinema Tools to see if it’s acceptable.

Try using QT Pro or QT Broadcaster to see if you can digitize from FW directly to a manageable file.

That is a standard 2:3 pulldown. A 24PA (advanced) pulldown has (starting from the A frame) two progressive frames then an interlaced frame then two more progressive frames. If you find the first interlaced frame and start from there, there will be four progressive frames and then one interlaced.
Ways to remove a 2:3 pulldown are either using Cinema Tools, Nattress Plugins or using After Effects.

But FCP Server which should be out in the fall might have the ability to do what you’re looking for. I saw it at NAB and it looked quite promising.

We did something like that for a while. When we had problems, we just shut everything down and started it back up again. It might help if you don’t do anything on the computer that has the RAID on it. Or maybe even loaded OS X Server on it.

Fastest, no. Best quality, probably (depending on your settings). What type of computer do you have? Do you have a capture card? What size of files does the client want (how much space are they expecting to take up)?
If you have a capture card, you might be able to capture straight to H264 using FCP or maybe even QT Pro or iChat. That would save quite a bit of time.
