mocha v4 will export mocha roto masks directly to Premiere Pro with a copy/paste. Coming soon!

Currently, if you want to import tracking data from mocha into Premiere, currently Boris FX BCC will accept the track data. Otherwise, simply import the mocha track data into AE.

May 19, 2014 at 5:01 pm in reply to: Mocha Pro – Matte Clips

The key to importing an external matte clips is to create a mocha layer and make the shape cover the entire image area, then select the layer properties and insert a Matte Clip. mocha will read the matte and you will know it is working if you see the matte in the overlays.

    Hope this helps.

mocha should be able to track the floor pretty easily. You will want to track from end to beginning and draw a shape around the floor plane and avoid any foreground elements such as the instruments, etc. Then you export your track data.

There are multiple ways to attack your problem from compositing perspective:

    1. Track in mocha AE and apply a “painted” patch to the track data. Because you will want to make you patch in perspective, you will want to use “Align Surface” button before exporting mocha data.

    2. Track in mocha AE and use the MochaImport+ to stabilize a precomp of the floor, do your paint work, than remove the stabilize. (mamoworld.com has great tuts).

    3. OR mocha Pro has remove module that could track in a painted clean plate and match the lighting shifts for a more realistic composite.

Yes – Transform will lock the track data to Scale, Position, Rotation and Transform keyframes only.

Perspective (corner pin) is what you want for most screen inserts and to have text elements follow realistic motion.

May 14, 2014 at 6:47 pm in reply to: mocha for AE vs AE 3D camera tracker

Sorry to miss your question. The free AE bundled mocha AE CC is a 2.5D tracker and can certainly track a tilt down. You will then get a 2D corner pin to match the perspective. It sounds like you wanted a “3D track”. In this case, the AE camera tracker is great for basic camera moves.

mocha Pro and mocha AE v3 (not the Adobe bundle version) also have a 3D camera solver that works a bit different than AE’s 3D tracker and could also handle a tilt down. This has been discussed in past threads, so I hope it helps.

Can be done with either mocha AE or mocha Pro but will require “paint or clone” to actually create some frames with the mic removed.

If you are using mocha AE, I would recommend looking into the MochaImport+ script. With that workflow, you would stabilize the movement of the actor to be locked down on a pre-comp. Than you would paint or clone out the mic, than re-introduce the motion. The MochaImport+ script helps understand and automate the workflow.

If you use mocha Pro, the workflow is different – you would track the back then feed some “clean plates” fixed frames created in a paint app like Photoshop. The nice thing about using mocha Pro for these tasks is that it has advanced functions in the Remove Module that will analyze and match lighting shifts and interpolate multiple patches for a great remove.

There are lots of tutorials on imagineer’s site.

  • Older version (mocha AE CS4) may not support all formats. Simply convert your clip to a jpeg sequence.

This tech note will help: https://www.imagineersystems.com/support/Documentation/supported-file-formats.

  • I hope you can afford free… mocha AE has been bundled free with AE since CS4.

If you are running CS6 or CC, simply select a layer and go to Animation menu> track in mocha AE.

If you are running CS4 or CS5 you will find the mocha AE application inside your AE application folder.

    – enjoy!

  • Why not use mocha? As long as the movement you are tracking is moving on a “relative plane”, it is quite simple to do a quick track in mocha and apply it to a Null to create an offset track.

    Good luck,

No problem. If you want to post the clip for me, I could take a quick look to see if there are suggestions to solve the track easier.
