My guess is that the project is more likely to be 30i so you need to render Lower Field First and also your project resolution should probably be D1 (720 X 486) unless you are using a DV resolution in Avid.

Just to clarify, are you working in HD??
If so, there is a work around as you technically can’t export OMF in HD.Let me know and i’ll help.

Basically means you are importing an OMF that has media already in the project (as in the OMF probably came from the project you are importing it into).
Therefore, do you want to merge the media (use the media already in Avid) or use fresh media found in the OMF.

Timothy,
Could be worse, you could live in Broome.
If you get the Break Out Box for the AJA LHe (Very cost effective) then your nearly there. We use Mackie mixers which suit us well for studio monitoring (they come in a variety of sizes too), and the Mackie speakers are good too. Just a simple 2 speaker setup.
Of course this is just for audio monitoring plus a bit of analog in/out work, but almost everything else is digital workflow.

Hey, I’m an Avid man, but Chris doesn’t have the budget for it.
But if you call in the next 15 mins I can set you up with a great system and 15 free kitchen knives.

I guess all these responses we gave are good and well except none are really based on your budget requirements.
In my opinion, with that money, you can get a great iMac, and Final Cut Pro studio, which will not only give you a good edit program, but a full suite of usable software. It is quite viable to earn income using a setup such as this.Best of Luck!

The iMac’s these days are really amazing…
BUT
You will be seriously limiting yourself by getting one instead of a Mac Pro. I know Mac Pro’s cost A LOT more, however you can put Kona cards in them, more hard drives, easily put more ram, fibre cars… anything. If you get the iMac and later decide to expand, you have to get a whole new system.
However, if you are just going with a basic setup, sticking to firewire and firewire outputs, then the iMac has it’s definite benefits. And as already said FCP is a lot more viable within your price range. I personally find Avid MC to be a more solid system, but you have to put a lot more money in to get that kind of setup.

Are you receiving/capturing the correct format? Is Sync connected?

Aaron,
Download “Handbrake”.
It burns the subtitles in and creates a variety of files, QT included.
The presets are good, can be a little fussy, but stick to the basics and it should do a good job.RB

The old school idea is that the boards on the box receive the most amount of wear when starting up due to the initial power fluctuations.
I have been assured though by an Avid Technician that there should be no problems with turning the box off each night.
However, my boss comes from the old school thought so we leave ours on until the weekend.RB
