    Just a note:

Though I of course wouldn’t expect you to go below Unity 5.0, but on Unity 4.5 we do HD up to DNX220 in multiple rooms at the same time.

    Douglas,

Until someone else comes along, i’ll just put my 2 cents in. As far as i’m aware, unity drives are just like external hard drives. That is, you can put whatever you want on them. We have mostly MC Adrenaline, but also Symphony Meridian and MC Meridian.

We have encountered no problems in sharing storage space and mixing MXF and OMF. The only issue is that Meridian cannot read MXF so we tend to capture all SD jobs OMF so they can to the Symphony Meridian. (Oh and creating projects on the Meridian system also helps for project compatibility.

Note though that we are using Unity 4.5 so I don’t know if the situation has changed for 5.0

My sincerest apologies. I really didn’t word that well at all.
You suggested using a HD timeline, which I believe to be unnecessary as your final product will be SD.
Secondly, as your final product is a DVD compression (of which the quality is even less than DV-PAL – due to compression) you might as well stick with DV-PAL. It will use up the least amount of room on your computer and have more responsive playback.

Hope this clears things up for you.

It’s going to end up being DV in size and less than DVD in quality in the end, so you might as well stick with the DV PAL setting. It will provide a better impression of the final product.

May 13, 2008 at 3:04 pm in reply to: Adreneline Media Composer and Meridian Symphony

We run both Adrenaline MC and Meridian Symphony.

To ensure that you can go back and forth we create the project on the Meridian system. (as Projects created in Adrenaline MC tend to not open well in the Meridian Symphony)
Footage has to be captured as OMF (Adrenaline MC defaults to MXF media – audio too).
If using Sapphire FX in the Adrenaline use the AVX1 version.
Adrenaline MC will not read the Symphony Colour Corrections.

    You should have no problems.

My only comment is, if you are using the same hardware from the G5, make sure the PCI cards are the correct fit. I can’t remember when Apple changed the PCI from PCI-X to PCI-e.

    Enjoy the speed.

What file format are you exporting to.

Sometimes Quicktime Reference files have issues where just a few random clips are out of synch. This mostly happens to me when using the reference file in software like Squeeze.

April 25, 2008 at 7:41 pm in reply to: Can’t import QT into PC Adrenaline

Yes this problem has most definitely been seen and solved. It is due to you not having the “Codec” for the file given to you on your PC. My guess is the codec is DVCPro HD and the footage was given to you from someone using Final Cut Pro. Thus why Final Cut Pro can read it.

Something from this forum thread might help – https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/859345#859345

But as you have a work around i would stick with that / or tell whoever gave you the files to export it in a more suitable codec like animation/Meridian/DnxHD.

    Cheers.

What sort of a budget are you dealing with. I believe it will dictate things a bit as cheaper HD flat screens don’t do so well with interlaced SD.
If you have the money, I like the Sony and JVC Pro Broadcast monitor with HD SDI etc.
