Yeah, if everything was going good and then slowed down I would suspect that your drive is too full. Try another one if you can and see if that helps.

Your EX footage is in the .mov format. Set your timeline in FCP to whatever you have the most footage in. If you have more HDV footage set the timeline up for that but if you have more EX footage then use the EX codec in the easy setup for FCP.

Yes, try and match your monitor brightness as it is dark out of the box and will give you false readings. Also, turn on your histogram or zebra bars. This should get you extremely close on exposure.

OK, Don’s link worked! I was adjusting the wrong phase setting. There are two. It is a cool feature you all should try sometime. Yes you can do some of this in post but it is a really cool look to do onsite if you know what you are after. Thanks again Don!

You will need to use Sony’s Clip Browser to import the files, then Final Cut’s XDCAM Transfer to get them into a usable format. Then you can just drag them into FCS browser window and work with them. I have just used the XDCAM Transfer program to download the cards directly to the file I wanted but everyone says this is a bad idea as it does not do error correction which the Clip Browser program does. It is an easy process and, as I have an EX-3 I highly recommend the -1 or -3. Good luck.

I believe he color space for XD CAM EX from the SXS cards is 4:2:0 not 4:0:0.

Keep in mind that EX footage is 4:2:0 not 4:2:2.

I think you are confusing “updating” with “reformating”. Reformating does indeed erase ALL info on the card (even the name if you have renamed it) and makes it clean like new. You “update” a card after you copy clips back to the card from the computer such as from Final Cut Pro. This lets the camera see the newly transfered clip(s).
